New Paradigm Theatre (www.nptheatre.org) is excited to announce a partnership with New York City Children’s Theatre!

New York City Children’s Theater is seeking short plays from some of the most talented playwrights in New York City, New Jersey and Connecticut: Middle School Students!

The New York City Children’s Theater Middle School Playwriting Competition is designed to give blossoming young playwrights a platform to find their voice while exploring the issues that affect their lives.

To participate, students in grades 6-8 will write an original, entertaining and enriching 10-minute play based on this year’s theme: How do we use technology to connect with others?

As the Grand Prize the two theaters will produce a staged Reading of the plays, performed by professional actors and New Paradigm Theatre youth on Theatre Row in May of 2018. Another weekend of the staged Readings will be performed with Broadway pros and NPT youth in CT the following weekend.

Rules

• You must currently be a middle school student (grades 6-8) living in New York City, New Jersey or Connecticut to participate.

• You must submit a permission slip, signed by a parent or guardian, with your play to be considered.

• Your play must be an original work – not an adaptation of a play, book, movie or any work that already exists.

• Your completed script must be no longer than 10 minutes when read aloud.

• Scripts may have up to, but no more than six (6) characters.

• By submitting a play, the playwright and their parent or guardian, are giving NYCCT permission to make the play available online or in print for free. This includes its inclusion in any future print/electronic anthologies.

• By submitting a play, the playwrights and their parent or guardian agree to allow NYCCT to document through all methods and media all stages of the process for educational, publicity, or any other uses.
