Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens
6/26/17 - 8/18/17

www.bartlettarboretum.org/summer_camp

 June 26 - August 18

Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens offers two summer 2017 programs in 8 one-week sessions (enroll for one or more): one program for children entering grades K-2 (Junior Explorers) and one program for children entering grades 3-5 (Eco-Explorers). Our summer programs are hands-on, incorporating STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) as we investigate the Bartlett’s extraordinary 93-acre campus. We balance open-ended nature exploration with Next Generation Science Standards aligned activities that build explorers’ skills and knowledge.

Junior Explorers Program for Children Ages 5 – 7

Week 1, June 26 - June 30: Wetland Wonders
Get wet and muddy exploring different aquatic habitats at the Arboretum. Wade in our stream, observe plants and animals in our wetlands, and learn all about water.

Week 2, July 5 - July 7: Nature Detectives (3-day Session)
Investigate mysteries in nature all around us. Use natural materials for building projects, science tools and design experiments to find answers to our questions.

Week 3, July 10 - July 14: Incredible Insects!
Insects (and other invertebrates) are all around us! Get up close and personal with boneless critters indoors and out.

Week 4, July 17 - July 21: Fabulous Forests
Explore our forest from top to bottom. Enjoy hiking, birdwatching, and digging in the soil to learn about the plants and animals that live in our forest.

Week 5, July 24 - July 28: Herbs, Potions, and Crafts
Learn all the ways we use plants. Spend time in the Bartlett’s beautiful herb garden – and use the plants we harvest in creative ways.

Week 6, July 31 - August 4: Plants Around The World
Explore plants from around the world in the Bartlett greenhouse. Learn about our desert and rainforest collections and make your own mini-rainforest (terrarium) to bring home!

Week 7, August 7 - August 11: Animal Extravaganza
Calling all animal lovers! Roam the Arboretum to learn about different kinds of animals. Enjoy special animal visitors.

Week 8, August 14 - August 18: Incredible Edibles-grow Your Own Food!
“Dig in” to food crops! Harvest from our vegetable garden, create garden-inspired crafts, and prepare and eat a variety of snacks.

Eco-Explorers Program for Children Ages 8 – 11

Week 1, June 26 - June 30: Eat What You Grow and Swamp Surveyors
Get your hands messy! Dig in the dirt as we plan and plant our own vegetable garden. Spend time in our swamp and pond looking for plants and critters!

Week 2, July 5 - July 7: (3-day Session) Grow-masters and What’s Up With Water?
Do you have what it takes to be a grow master? Join us as we help our seedlings grow. Conduct tests with the same tools scientists use in their labs every day!

Week 3, July 10 - July 14: Plant Protectors and Insect Investigation
Learn to be ‘plant protectors’ this week! Discover what it takes to protect plants from creepy crawly friends. Catch insects, and explore the world as if you were one of them!

Week 4, July 17 - July 21: Using Trash As Treasure and Plant Life Private Eye
Apple cores and banana peels. Other people’s “trash,” but our compost! As private investigators, see what’s growing in the Bartlett backyard.

Week 5, July 24 - July 28: Culinary Creations and Mystery Masters
From salsa to sweet treats, make delicious creations from ingredients in our gardens. Bring your thinking hat to solve many mysteries...

Week 6, July 31 - August 4: Global Green Thumbs and Nature Detectives
Test out your global green thumb in the greenhouse and the garden. Calling Sherlock Holmes! Investigate what animals are living at the Bartlett.

Week 7, August 7 - August 11: Animal Extravaganza
The Bartlett is home to amazing plants and incredible animals. Learn all about the critters who call this place home. Visit our swamp, pond, stream, and gardens to find many of our animal friends.

Week 8, August 14 - August 18: Happy Harvest Time and Time Warp Wonder
