Igor Pikayzen, International Violinist

Westport Arts Center
7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

The Westport Arts Center’s 2017-18 Concert Series, bringing the best of international talent to Fairfield County, presents acclaimed international violinist Igor Pikayzen on Friday, November 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Westport Arts Center.

Pikayzen is an award-winning Russian-American violinist, and Westport, CT resident, who has confidently established himself as one of the most prodigious talents of his generation.  He has been praised on four continents by critics and audiences alike for his astounding technical ability and a majestically lush tone.

Since his concerto debut at the age of 8, Pikayzen has appeared as a soloist with major orchestras spanning Europe, Asia, and North and South America.  Of Pikayzen, Westport Magazine stated, “[Pikayzen’s] intimate familiarity with his instrument is a musical gift for those privileged enough to attend his concerts.”

A 2005 graduate of Staples High School, Pikayzen holds a special fondness for Westport, teaching Masters Classes for the Staples High School orchestra whenever possible.  In 2010, he was honored with the Westport Arts Advisory Committee’s Horizon Award, presented to Westport young people under the age of 32 who have demonstrated measurable excellence in either visual, film, theater, music or literary arts.

For this special performance, Pikayzen will perform a program of Bach, Bartók, Ysaye, Paganini and Corigliano.

Alexander Platt, the curator for the Westport Arts Center Concert Series, serves as a guide for concert attendees, and will share his perspective and insights at the performance. A native Westporter, Platt has previously served as the Music Director of eminent orchestras around the country, and now makes Westport his primary residence and focus.

Of Pikayzen, Platt stated, “Igor is truly not to be missed – he will delight and entertain with this unique program.  I look forward to sharing this performance with the community.”

Attendees will also have the opportunity to view Vivian Maier – a Lifetime of Photographs, on view at the Arts Center through November 10. The exhibition features over seventy color and black & white photos taken by the secretive nanny-photographer during her lifetime.
