SavorCity: Dolphin's Cove

Dolphin's Cove Restaurant
6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

SavorCity Bridgeport, organized to encourage the exploration and discovery of the amazing culinary and cultural delights of Connecticut's most diverse city, continues its series of monthly tours of restaurants, art and music, at Dolphin's Cove Restaurant, on Bridgeport's East End shoreline, on Tues. August 7, 6-9pm.

The Matias family have been serving seafood and Portuguese favorites here since 1993. Dinner will comprise a prix fixe buffet for $30, with vegetarian options. Art by Iyaba Ibo Mandingo, a native of Antigua, West Indies, who will be displaying his large 3-D sculptures from his Afrika 360 series. Music provided by Jen Durkin and The Business.

Iyaba Ibo Mandingo is a poet, playwright and sculptor, with his studio at The NEST. A native of Antigua, West Indies, Iyaba came to the United States in 1980 as a young boy. His earliest exposure to the arts came through his mother, a professional singer, and his grandparents, a tailor and a seamstress, who first introduced him to colors and patterns, paving a path to the many ways of expression: drawing, painting, sculpting, writing and performing. Iyaba studied fine arts at Southern Connecticut State University and today teaches in and around the tri-state area as a Master Teaching Artist. At Dolphin's Cove he will be exhibiting large scale 3D sculptural works from his Afrika 360 series. Inspired by his 4-month sojourn in South Africa and Nigeria in 2015, Afrika 360 is a visual and artistic journey in paint, sculpture, and movement.

Fronted by Jen “Pipes” Durkin, founding member of Deep Banana Blackout, The Business rolls out originals and covers to the heavy beats of drummer Johnny Durkin, who holds down the rhythm, along with the soul-rumbling baselines of Rich Zurkowski. Guitarist Darian Cunning brings in his melody magic to meet the force of keys and organ played by Kris Yunker, founding member of On The Spot Trio. With this band, created in the heart of Black Rock, with the intention of bringing catchy funk tunes and foot-stomping beats to the ears of all, you can’t help but get down to Business!
