Ruben Marroquin is a fiber artist and a weaver. He studied art in Caracas, Venezuelan at the Armando Reverón institute of the arts and textile and surface design at the Fashion Institute of Technology as well as a semester abroad at the National Textile Workshop in Paris. Marroquin has participated in contemporary fiber art group exhibits in several museums in the U.S. and abroad. Marroquin has had the opportunity to collaborate with the Metropolitan Museum of art in New York in educational programs incorporating weaving, display and workshops of his fiber art. Group exhibitions include the Minnesota Museum of American Art in Minneapolis, the Rijswijk Museum's Textile Biennial in the Netherlands, the Fuller Craft Museum in Massachusetts and the Hudgens Center for the Arts in Duluth, GA. Marroquin has also participated in numerous gallery shows including the Ann Street Gallery in Newburgh, NY, and the Nikki Diana Marquardt gallery in Paris, France. Marroquin's work has a great record of sales at contemporary art fairs; he sold art to galleries and collectors at the SoFa Fair in Chicago in 2013, the Metro Show in 2014 and this year's Pulse Art Fair in New York City. His work is part of contemporary art collections such as Mark Lyman's, founder of Sculptural Object, Functional Art Fair, Douglas Dawson from Dawson Gallery and Michael Olszewski's who is also a fiber artist and professor of textiles at Columbia College in Chicago.
Ruben Marroquin's studio at the Historic Arcade Mall serves as a weaving and fiber arts storefront. Marroquin offers weaving classes, custom hand woven fabrics and available art for sale.
