Much like a dream is an amalgamation of daily events, Amy Vensel’s abstract paintings are derived from disparate images and ideas she encounters — the ghosted figures in a surveillance photo, the brilliant hue of an indigo bunting, or the gritty distortion in a Sigur Ros song.
Vensel studied art and design at Syracuse University and the Silvermine School of Art. She has been awarded a grant from the Artist Resource Trust, an artist grant and residency at The Vermont Studio Center, and she was the winner of the Wofsey Award at the Faber Birren National Color Award Show. Her work has been included in exhibitions at the New Britain Museum of American Art (Connecticut), the Mattatuck Museum (Connecticut), Real Art Ways (Connecticut), Barrett Art Center (New York), Artspace (Connecticut), Five Points Gallery (Connecticut), and Giampietro Gallery (Connecticut).
